Delivered by your local Mind, the Children and Young people Supported Self-help programme is an evidence-based mental health service for 11 to 18 year olds.

Supported Self-help gives young people the skills to understand, protect, and improve their mental health.

Trained mental health practitioners deliver a 6 to 8 week course in a community setting (schools – Olchfa, Gowerton and Dylan Thomas) to help provide tools and coping skills to managing a range of mental health topics. The first session is a 40 minute introduction to discuss what support the young person needs. A young person can bring their trusted adult to the introductory session and this decision is always young person led. If both the young person and practitioner feel that Supported Self-help is appropriate they will have five 20-minute sessions using evidence-based tools and resources to develop a wellbeing toolkit.

The topics covered within the programme are varied and include some of the following:

  1. Grief & Loss
  2. Anger
  3. Self-esteem
  4. Low Mood
  5. Anxiety & Worrying
  6. Stress

If you – or a young person you know – might benefit from Support Self-help please contact our office on 01792642999 or contact the young person’s team.

Workshops are also delivered throughout the year on various subjects such as Exam Stress and Coping with Change -Transition for pupils
